These maps are portions taken from the official map of Louisiana (the one showing the entire course) and from 7.5-minute quadrangles or topographic maps covering nearly every stretch of Bayou Teche.

You’ll notice the topo maps have a grid overlay. If  you’re not familiar with the GPS format Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM), the lines of the grid are a kilometer apart, coordinates inceasing west to east and south to north.

We are missing the Opelousas quadrangle, which covers a short, uncomplicated bend near the start of the race. We will probably just dispense with that one because, as every tripper knows, sometimes it’s cool to be off the map.
