The TECHE Project, Acadiana RC&D and Sierra Club Delta Chapter team up to present the second in a series of water quality sampling workshops on Bayou Teche on August 5, 2010. The workshop will be presented in Port Barre at the Community Room, next to Town Hall, which is located at 504 Saizan Ave. Port Barre. The workshop will start at 6:00 pm and last until 8:30 pm. The workshop will start with a video describing some of the water sampling tests that we presented at the spring workshop. There will be a review of sampling locations and team assignments, and teams will practice running some of the tests.

Tour du Teche Racers Gathering

An info session about the 130-mile Tour du Teche canoe race is set for 6 p.m. on Aug. 17 at Pack & Paddle, 601 E. Pinhook Road, Lafayette. All prospective racers and their families are invited to the free event, where race organizers will answer questions and discuss the rules, the route and equipment requirements.
 
Breaux Bridge Clean Up

Please make plans to join us on Aug. 21 for a bayou clean up in Breaux Bridge. We'll meet at the city's boat launch about 9 a.m. Bring work clothes, boots and gloves. Boats are needed, but all hands are welcome, boat or not. The clean up is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club de Pont Breaux and Cajuns for Bay0u Teche.

Tour du Teche will waive the entry fee for current members of the Armed Forces, whether active duty, reserves or National Guard.

Tour du Teche rule changes!

There have several changes in the rules for the Tour du Teche, the 130-mile ultra marathon set for Sept. 17-19, 2010:

Teams will not be required to have a bank-runner, an official member of the team who proceeds ahead of the boat on land from checkpoint to checkpoint. While this is still a good idea, it does seem to pose an undue  hardship on teams traveling long distances to get here.
